Kid Approved & Diabetic Friendly

Friday Featured Lunch 1.24.14

I pack my son a fresh school lunch every day. Each Friday, I pick one lunch from the week to share with you- the Friday Featured Lunch. These featured lunches are meant to give you inspiration of new things to make and try with your kids. Plus, all featured lunches include the carbohydrate breakdown of each food item, so that you can easily add/remove items to accommodate your child’s likes/dislikes.

Here is this week’s featured lunch, packed in a Yumbox:

Cracker Stackers (whole grain crackers, cheddar cheese slices, sliced summer sausage)= 10 carbs
1/2 serving Annie’s Homegrown Cheddar Snack Mix= 9 carbs
Chobani Champions Yogurt Tube= 9 carbs
Carrots= 0 carbs
Apples= 6 carbs

Lunch Total= 34 carbohydrates

  1. I love your website! So user friendly. I just passed your link along to the parent of one of my students…a newly-diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic. She’s ten and was just diagnosed at the beginning of this month.

    And I might add, as a 3x gestational diabetic mom, I’m always looking for better ways to feed my kids and myself. I truly believe that eating the “diabetic way” is good for all of us! Carbs are necessary…but not all are created equal!

    • Thanks so much for your kind words, Valerie! Thanks also for passing along the link to my website- I hope they will find me. Everything can be very overwhelming, especially in the early months of being diagnosed.

      I totally agree with you that the “diabetic way” is good for all of us! My entire family is essentially on a low carb diet as well and we have no complaints.

      Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment! :)
